One thing I recommend is to browse on HN Classic, I find it tends to weed out some of the lower value topics which helps the discourse you find in the comments.

- atsaloli 4y agoWhat is HN Classic? Never heard of a such a thing. Google Search doesn't turn anything up.
- Sebb767 4y agoIt's a copy of the front page, but it uses the old algorithm and only counts votes from user accounts that are older than 2008-02-13. See here, for example: https://github.com/minimaxir/hacker-news-undocumented#hacker-news-classic https://github.com/minimaxir/hacker-news-undocumented#hacker...
- atsaloli 4y agoAmazing! Thanks for the documentation link!

- silent92 4y agoMind explaining what this is?
- Sebb767 4y agoIt's pretty funny in context of the comment pg made on its release thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=607285 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=607285 I'd still agree.
- cypherpunks01 4y agoThis is sort of funny, because one of the differences I can see is that this post is not on the frontpage of the "Classic" site right now.. How did you get here? :) And yes, if someone can elucidate what HN Classic is, that would be cool. I assume it uses some older ranking algorithm that has since been swapped out?
- digdugdirk 4y agoIt only counts votes from users registered prior to 2008. See the following link to this and other undocumented "features" of HN: https://github.com/minimaxir/hacker-news-undocumented#hacker-news-classic https://github.com/minimaxir/hacker-news-undocumented#hacker...
