Yes initials of Norwegian guys. AVR--Alf (Egil Bogen) and Vegard (Wollan)'s RISC processor. In addition, to my understanding, they held the patent on the first single-clock-cycle instruction execution. Atmel doesn't seem to want to acknowledge that so they don't pay patent royalties.
