I don't think this is a good summary. My understanding of the idea is to steel-man the opponent's argument and then also add a codicil that describes what compassionate values they have that lead them to that point of view.
- gregwebs 4y agoYes, I agree your summary is more accurate of what is written in the article. I think the emphasis of mine is an improvement on what is suggested here. Shifting from arguing towards conversation produces better outcomes in my experience.
