Same story as pretty much everyone else here (c64, most of these same books, typed basic) I just looked back and I think these are some of the best written books. Thinking on it there were probably dozens of programming books but these endured because they were so good. The overview of the set of variables that you have to store and update for a fantasy game may be the best high level view I’ve seen (if you know of a better one, let me know!) These books were exceptional.
