Have you reset the printer? I had a different brand printer go bonkers in a very similar way - it would show me the yellow ink was empty, even on a new cartridge, and thus wouldn't print anything. Don't get me on about why this colour printer won't print black text if a colour module is low! They aren't even the same cartridge! I googled the reset method and it worked on the first attempt, and even managed to continue using the original "empty" cartridge until it was factually empty. I still have that printer today and it's been years since I had to reset it. I'm convinced it was a software driver fluke because it's never happened again.
