But I can't imagine it's very conducive to research when some ignorant, cynical, and/or purity-obsessed law enforcement bureaucrat decides that a novel molecule is merely an "analog" or "designer drug" that we need to wipe out (lest those people commit the unpardonable sin of getting away with it).
