It seems likely that it wouldn't happen in the first place, because people would be (rightfully, in this case) afraid of liability. If it did happen, I expect they'd either issue a long, wordy but mostly empty statement that they're looking into it, possibly with an apology not accepting blame, trying to avoid attention at all costs. Saying something means the press has something to write, so aside from maybe a first vague statement like this, they'd probably stay silent. In a clear case like this, they'd likely be torn apart afterwards though.
