China Has a Problem with Data Leaks. One Reason Is Its Surveillance State
- Kukumber 4y agoIt has nothing to do with "Surveillance State", it just is poor security, and poor handling of the data The fact that we let big companies harvest our data, train ML models with it, sell them to 3rd party and all that kind of stuff, is the reason why we are not careful about it and that kind of stuff is forced to happen Their data leaks is a warning for us to finally care about it, otherwise nothing will change The "Chinese Surveillance State" is bad propaganda and is counter productive since we are headed toward that direction too, for the better
- hunglee2 4y agocorrect analysis, WSJ is on a mission to bend every story into a 'China bad' account. That there are certainly things in China that are bad, doesn't mean that it unique form of governance is always the root cause
- stop50 4y agoEven their own graphic shows it. China has absolute more, but if we take it relative to the people living in the countries, the US has the most.
- hunglee2 4y agoeh....if we took nations are the unit of analysis and added up the frequency and severity of data leaks, we likely would see US as the ignominious leader. As the Kukumber mentioned, the issue is data collection and data security, not state governance
