I have to wonder if the people who designed CarPlay actually drive cars, or if they're all bicycle-riding San Franciscans blissfully ignorant of the human factors considerations and numerous bugs that plague CarPlay, only to never be fixed until the next major version, when the UI predictably, yet inexplicably, changes.
Imagine if the buttons in your '04 Accord rearranged themselves every year. Think about that for a minute.
I've ranted about CarPlay too many times for it to make any difference, but suffice it to say Apple just creates an API then tosses it over to the OEMs to implement and does not do enough product testing because every implementation of CarPlay I've used has bugs in it - and the bugs are different depending on what model car you're driving.

Most of Apple software UI changed when Tim Cook gave Ive the power to all things design including Software. ( Along with kicking out Forstall ). Their Software Human UX design Head fought with Ive and decided to "retire" only after a few years. And somewhere along the line after some restructuring, things where never the same again. All current Apple UI are just like some much better looking Android.
