Job creation numbers are mostly myths. There are many people doing bad jobs who, given the opportunity, would be doing other jobs. The fossil fuel industry has been subsidised in many countries for decades. That money could have trained people to have skills in areas with less negative environmental impact. That money could have been used to develop better technology.
In Australia I recently did some contract work for a large government infrastructure project. They claimed that they had created so many hundreds of jobs. In reality, those jobs are temporary, and the people filling those jobs could easily be working on other projects.
- poorlyknit 4y agoI think the post you're replying to is being sarcastic. Nobody would take such a small amount of economic gain over the deaths of millions of people, right? ... right guys?
- Intermernet 4y agoSorry, I'm probably a bit jaded from living in Australia. The preceding government based its entire lack of climate policy on exactly that argument.
