Plasma seems like the worst part of KDE to me. It looks nice and has good functionality when it's working, but unfortunately it's riddled with bugs. Panels crash all the time and don't come back until I restart plasmashell. I gave up on Plasma. I still use kwin and several KDE applications, like Dolphin, but now I use those with LxQT instead of Plasma. It doesn't look as stylish, but it seems to be rock solid. Plus I still get all the nice compositing effects and configurability of kwin.
