I’m ex Facebook software engineer (even had selfie with Zuckerberg as the avatar picture) who got banned on Facebook. Up to this day I have no clue what for. But it’s extremely annoying because I lost lots of photos that I didn’t back up and close to thousand contracts of people. Users should definitely own this data, not a corporation.
- thr0wawayf00 4y agoThe irony here is that I deleted my FB years ago and back then at least, FB only permitted deleting one photo at a time. Took me well over an hour to delete all of my photos. In hindsight, I should've just done something obviously ban-able instead.
- nier 4y agoThere’s no guarantee that either method results in your photos being actually deleted.
- thr0wawayf00 4y agoI'm aware of that, I just wanted them removed from the public view.
- stoicjumbotron 4y agoHas the deleting single photo thing resolved by now? I too remember deleting close to 100s of photos one by one.
- nephanth 4y agoIirc it is, at least if you live in Europe

- jjulius 4y agoI'm as, "Fuck Facebook," as the next guy, but... yikes.
- nier 4y agoI agree with you, yikes. But the concepts of rehabilitation and reintegration are not known to everyone.
- jjulius 4y agoNuance and understanding, too, it seems. They said "ex engineer", but nobody bothered asking what they worked on or why they left. Instead, you've got a bunch of people suggesting that they should be kept out of the rest of society because their resume says "Facebook". Boggles the mind.
- joshsyn 4y agoReally? Stopped being hyperbolic. The guy did his job.

- OrangeMonkey 4y agoThis was uncalled for man.
- rglullis 4y agoWhy is it ok to collectively hate bankers, people working in big tobacco, salesmen in big pharma and many other industries that we know for being damaging to society, but when it comes to Big Tech we suddenly think "it is uncalled for"? Facebook is a deplorable company and its leadership is known to have a completely broken moral compass. But why should we hold only the leadership accountable? It is the developers, the product managers, the biz dev people who are actually getting their hands dirty, and you can bet that no one is doing it against their will.
- mpeg 4y agoMaybe you got banned because you had a selfie with zuck as the profile picture. Some automated system trying to prevent celebrity impersonation might have flagged you.
- ricardobayes 4y agoSomeone maybe disliked you in your old team
- FearlessNebula 4y agoSurely you had enough contacts at Facebook to get somebody to look into it for you? Just another concern with tying the Oculus Quest to a Meta account. Google accidentally banned one of their own developers and he almost pulled Terraria off of their Stadia platform.
