Just yesterday I was reading about Time-of-creation/Time-of-use (TOCTOU) race conditions in symlinks (https://lwn.net/Articles/899543/ https://lwn.net/Articles/899543/).
The manufacturer's new container-id generation logic probably has/had this category of issue (i.e., TOCTOU).
