So Peerless wasn't really peerless afterall.
- jameshart 4y agoThere's the beginnings of an Abbott and Costello skit here. "I went to the pier to meet the Peerless but the cotton didn't appear" "Did you talk to Captain Pierre?" "Captain Pierre of the Peerless? No, the captain of the Peerless was Captain Pearce" "Well did you talk to Captain Pearce?" "Yes, on the pier." ...
- stevekemp 4y agoThat's strongly reminiscent of the old Two Ronnies sketch, about misheard orders: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV1IP4N9ajg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV1IP4N9ajg Even now "Fork handles" will get a smile from me.
- linksnapzz 4y ago"I need some Os!" "No! Not hose! Os!"
- bityard 4y agoMy high school english teacher ordered something that had cardboard cut outs of the alphabet and when it arrived, a few of the letters were missing. When she called the company to straighten it out, she said (calmly) that the packet was missing the F and G. The woman on the other end gasped and said, "we're happy to send you a replacement letter, but there's no need to be rude!"
- jameshart 4y agoI think you’re right. If we add in some business about a portly porter who departed promptly from the port to go to a party while we were peering off the pier waiting for poor Captain Pearce of the Peerless to put in an appearance, I can practically hear it in Ronnie Barker’s voice. He might be the only person who could actually get through the script without stumbling.
- glimmung 4y ago"LO! FUNEX?"
- causality0 4y agoSometimes I think there must be something wrong with my brain because for the life of me I cannot figure out what is funny about homophone jokes.
- BuyMyBitcoins 4y agoFor me at least, the joke is obvious and not particularly humorous but the delivery by the performers is what makes it funny.
- goldenkey 4y agoExactly. Who's on first? https://youtu.be/nZ5vspsNS1g https://youtu.be/nZ5vspsNS1g
- jaclaz 4y agoYou are not alone, I have often the same kind of reaction to play-on-words. Let's see if you are sensible to other kind of humour :): https://www.marriedtothesea.com/041508/tracking-number-14.gif https://www.marriedtothesea.com/041508/tracking-number-14.gi...
