I hadn't realised until recently that the fleet that Nelson destroyed at Trafalgar was on its way to the English Channel to help Napoleon's army to cross to England. In that way the battle of Trafalgar is directly comparable to the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588 and the Battle of Britain in 1940.
