ClassDojo is horrible because some schools use that as the main way of communication, so you’re kind of forced to use the app, which then keeps pestering about how your life would be better and you’d be more in touch with your child if only you signed up to the paid suscription. So it’s basically using schools and teachers as salespeople to get a foothold and then try to upsell the product.
And that’s not even going into how it tries to “gameify life” for parents and kids even outside the school environment, and turn every moment into a Pavlovian opportunity to earn stickers toward some goal. Basically using motivation techniques one would use with a dog because they are “easy” and don’t require you to understand what the child is thinking; just offer an abstract reward in exchange for desirable actions, like one would in behaviorist training.
- thisismellon 4y agoMy son and his teachers use ClassDojo at school and I love it. 99% of their features are free - you don't need to be a subscriber to get value. Their business model makes the product free for all schools to use where other similar apps are charging schools a lot of money - money that could be used for better things.
