As with all technology, any obvious military use will be taken and exploited to the max. How long do you think it took to exploit sticks, rocks and fire as weaponry? The discovery of making hands into a fist was weaponized way before even then. There is no technology in history that has ever been exempt from weaponization, and it is unfeasible to think there ever will be. We can't not see an object's weapon potential, for life itself dictates the existence of adversaries.
