I used ThinkPads for a decade, and then XPS13 for the last 8 years (plus a year on XPS15 for my personal machine before switching back to XPS13). The XPS13s ran Linux for most of that time. My current work XPS13 is Windows 11 plus WSL2 running Ubuntu 22.04.
I like the XPS13 for its small physical size, good Linux compatibility (if buying a brand new model, wait for the first BIOS point release to come out before purchasing) and in recent models, the 16x10 rather than 16x9 screen.
Quality is ok. Needed one motherboard replacement (under warranty) in 8 years, and that's running/cycling every day with the laptop in my backpack.
The other thing is I use it with an external monitor above the laptop. Don't use an external keyboard because I don't mind the XPS13 keyboard [1] and don't want to be changing keyboards between work/home/while travelling.
[1] Apart from the new touch-sensitive function key row... Just give me normal keys that depress. I won't buy the 2022 XPS13 if I can't buy one with a proper keyboard.
