Book title is a bit startling/clickbaity, so here's a bit of the summary for context:
> A novel defense of abduction, one of the main forms of nondeductive reasoning. With this book, Igor Douven offers the first comprehensive defense of abduction, a form of nondeductive reasoning. Abductive reasoning, which is guided by explanatory considerations, has been under normative pressure since the advent of Bayesian approaches to rationality.

- actually_a_dog 4y ago"A novel defense of abductive reasoning" would be a better choice of titles all around.
- _jal 4y agoI was hoping for some edgy economic model wherein ransoms were pareto-efficient or something, but this was fun, too.
- gnicholas 4y agoI'm thinking more Coase than Pareto for that particular scenario.
- chrnola 4y agoInteresting cover choice for that title too.
- asdftemp 4y agoif hoofprints in snow were legible as a book cover, an allusion to the Name of the Rose would be even better :)
- jfarmer 4y agoThat'd be doubly appropriate since Umberto Eco said that C.S. Peirce "is undoubtedly the greatest unpublished writer of our century." Peirce's Notion of Interpretant (1976) https://www.jstor.org/stable/2907146 https://www.jstor.org/stable/2907146
