The US Govt and Corps Look to Fill 700K Cybersecurity Jobs
- hunglee2 4y agothe talent shortage in Cybersecurity is in itself a threat to security; employers will be forced to lower qualifying criteria to make up shortfall, leading to easier penetration for moles
- rossdavidh 4y agoIf there were 7k unfilled Cybersecurity jobs, that would be a problem. That there are 700k unfilled cybersecurity jobs, indicates an issue with how these job openings came to be; something deeply unrealistic is going on. Still, if it results in a bunch of training in some very basic cybersecurity, I guess it will be beneficial.
- vfclists 4y agoMore interesting is which companies are going to get the contracts to supply these Cybersecurity specialists? Getting 700,000 people to screen the source all those open source libraries line by line would be a lot more useful.
- _8j50 4y agoI work in cybersecurity and this is b.s. , they are including things like planned attrition and head-count based on the budget they have. Let's say you have a million dollars you extra after using up yiur budget, you ask for 8 more people in different teams so you won't get cut next year. You won't fill those roles but you still have the budget. There is also folks that think they need more bodies when they need to collect better data and automate. Also, when they say they can't get skilled people they mean they don't want to hire entry level and promote from within because they lack maturity and/or have terrible talent retention rate.
