FWIW, I highly, highly recommend showing them (simpler) movies with _english_ subtitles. This helped tremendously when I was going from “school English” to “native English”, because things I couldn’t pick up by ear yet, I could pick up by reading the subtitles. If you watch it with Ukrainian subtitles, your brain just falls back on what it already knows, and ignores the soundtrack (mostly).
