Ask HN: Can I vent a portable AC into a thermos flask?
I've been wondering, would it be possible to vent an AC into a thermos flask, thereby thermally isolating the vented air/vapour from the rest of the room?
I understand that I'd need to "empty" the thermos often, but would this theoretically work?
- jqpabc123 4y agoto "empty" the thermos often Yes --- like almost continuously.
- navjack27 4y agoUhhhhhh. My portable ac requires a window to vent to. Not for a thermos amount of air but a constant stream of lots of air. What are you asking? The condensation? Not all build enough to actually need to be emptied. Read the manuals for them. Like, ok, here is what happens with an AC. A condenser unit pressurizes gas that gets cold and hot. Fan moves air over the cold part that blows into the dwelling. Fan moves over the hot part where air is expelled and is vented. This air is isolated. Condensation happens in all of this and is used to further cool the hot section and that is collected and recirculated in some models. In others it is actively drained. This is an oversimplification you don't need to correct me also, nerds.

- osrec 4y agoLol, your comment made me smile. I was simply interested in the concept, that's why I asked!
