Methanol in South Africa Teens Deaths Often Fatal
- rendall 4y agoTerrifying. No one expects to go blind and die when drinking alcohol.
- jleyank 4y agoNobody expects to die or go blind drinking sterno, either. People do some pretty stupid things seeking a buzz at times.

- sonorous_sub 4y agoInteresting article. >There are cases of methanol resistance, such as that of Mike Malloy, whom someone tried and failed to poison by methanol in the early 1930s The original "Iron Mike", https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Malloy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Malloy

- bfuller 4y agoI definitely think about that possibility and whether the distiller was skilled/wise enough to remove the methanol before i try homemade moonshine
- vanattab 4y ago>Because methanol is cheap it has been used in making illegal alcoholic drinks, sometimes called moonshine. This article is absolute garbage they make it sound as if people are deliberately adding methanol to homemade spirts because it's cheap. This is not what typically happens, methanol is usually/(always?) a by product and has to be removed during the distilling process. There is no mention of methanol being a natural by product of production. Because of articles like this the next group of kids may assume that as long as they don't add methanol they are safe.
