- Mindwipe 4y agoAnything that Netflix serves higher resolution pictures to has a closed encrypted renderer and protected memory right down to the HDMI controller with driver and hardware certificate signing to make sure you can't do this. That is literally what Widevine Level 1 is.
- BizarroLand 4y agoNah, it's pretty easy. You can screen record with OBS Studio or something similar, or if you want to capture the output you can run the output into a cheap Chinese HDMI splitter that only implements HDCP between your PC and the box, but not between the box and the monitor, and then capture that output with a hardware recorder.
- Mindwipe 4y agoNo, you can't record with OBS. The entire point of WV L1 is that nothing in Userland can see the pixels because they are not composited until the last second of the hardware's output path. You will just get black pixels, and no software running in the general purpose OS can do anything about that. If it can, then it's not a Widevine Level 1 setup. And yes, a HDMI splitter could, but that is completely irrelevant to what I said, which was about the inability to do screen recording before the HDMI output.
