DHS bought “shocking amount” of warrantless phone-tracking data, ACLU says
- metadat 4y agoAbolish DHS, completely ridiculous that they'd pay the private market for this illegally obtained (or at the very least gray market) data. The FBI, CIA, and plethora of other 3-letter agencies should be able to cover the bases when DHS is gone. I know, this is never going to happen but god damn, they're chipping away at our privacy and civil liberties like clockwork. Spying on law abiding citizens IS CRIMINAL totalitarian nonsense; completely unnecessary and counter-productive to the well-being of the USA.
- dragonwriter 4y agoDHS is the cabinet level department containing: - FEMA - CISA - TSA - Coast Guard - Customs and Border Protection (CBP, the actual agency directly involved here, though it's not identified in the source article, it is 8n the earlier article on the same issue it references) - Citizenship and Immigration Services - Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) - Secret Service CBP—more specifically, the Border Patrol, which is within CBP—and ICE (and it's partial predecessor, INS) have been problems even prior to the reorg that brought them their current organizational names and position in DHS, have been problems generations longer than DHS has existed. But that's more about the politics attached to their function than boxes on an org chart; destroying DHS and portioning out their function different places in the executive branch won't solve anything.
