People are right to trust science more than opinion. However the media amplifies bad science to capitalize on narratives and make money. Good news media is supposed to put things through a critical lens and explain to people things are currently a theory or just a small subset of a bigger picture... but they media has become click bait and unreliable. They will take the tiniest shred of evidence and use that to make some wildly sensational claim.
