I graduated in Electrical Engineering & I feel the spectrum of things one learnt in EE makes for a very well rounded engineer. That being said, only a fraction of PhDs awarded nowadays are "core EE" topics. I can safely say I am a better SWE because of the EE grounding back in the day.
