XPS 13 Reinvents Itself, Embracing Simplicity as the New Premium
- kristianp 4y agoNew dell XPS plus has non-clickable function row.
- xcambar 4y agoAnother brilliant example of form over function.
- senttoschool 4y agoIt starts at $1,449.00 for 1080p screen, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Why would the average user buy this over the M2 Air? Average user = Not doing anything that requires Windows or Linux. M2 Air has a better screen, faster CPU (plugged or unplugged), faster GPU, more battery life, fanless, runs cooler, better speakers, thinner, and it's cheaper. Also, I think not having function keys is a mistake. Touch keys are just awful on a keyboard. In addition, if you want to do even light gaming, you'd want function keys.
- senttoschool 4y agoThis reminds me of the 2016 Macbook Pro with the touchbar. Since Apple couldn't differentiate in performance (everyone used Intel chips), they had to come up with a gimmick (touchbar). Now Dell is doing the same thing. They can't differentiate in chip performance so they're resorting to gimmicks and form over function.
- fomine3 4y agoNote that Dell's price is often discounted while Macs not. Though it's a bit annoying.
- senttoschool 4y agoM1 is frequently on sale for $850 brand new on Amazon.
- tannhaeuser 4y agoDell will have to learn the hard way to not take away ESC and physical function keys and replace those with gimmicks, just as Apple laudably corrected their erratic venture into "thin, iconic, blabla" but unusable notebooks with their current line up (though they may actually have gone a little too far in the bulky boxes direction). My 2016 XPS was fantastic because it was a stealthy fully usable pro device (modulo necessary concessions towards cooling); the last-gen (2020ish) XPSs were still ok if compromising on ports too much. This one is a hard pass.
