Republican Counties Have Higher Death Rates Than Democratic Counties in the U.S.
- jvalencia 4y agoGiven that republican counties also tend to be rural, I wonder what would happen if you corrected along those lines...
- tmn 4y agoIm sure age demographics also come into play (idk to what degree though). How much is this result a factor of the demographic pyramid of republicans vs democrats?

- jqpabc123 4y agoLook at the charts. They specifically say "age normalized".
- ilamont 4y agoI was thinking the same thing. Different occupational hazards, diet, access to medical care ...
- kevwil 4y agoI was thinking the same thing.
- jqpabc123 4y agoSo you're suggesting that a high stress, overcrowded, more polluted urban environment and lifestyle is actually healthier than a rural one? What makes you think that "correcting along these lines" wouldn't make the differences in mortality even more pronounced?
- pmdulaney 4y agoOn the other hand, do you suppose that more years of education correlates well with better health? Or increased income and access to healthcare?
- jqpabc123 4y agoYes, education tends to correlate with decreased Republicanism and increased quality and duration of life. In other words, education is just one of many positive life influences often rejected by Republicans.
- pmdulaney 4y agoAnd yet I suppose you would be loath to say that education is one of many positive life influences that poor people reject, despite the fact that many Republicans reject education because they are poor.
- jvalencia 4y agoI'm saying that access to world class hospitals in urban centers makes the difference. If you live 2 hours from the nearest medical center and all you have is the Dr. that's willing to live 30 minutes from you in a corn field...
- jqpabc123 4y agoSo you think this is something that only came about over the last two decades? In 2000, the death rates were very similar. Since then they have steadily widened and continue to grow.
- kevwil 4y ago"The new study, conducted by researchers in Texas, Missouri, Massachusetts and Pakistan ..." Pakistan?
- jqpabc123 4y agoYes, Pakistan. The idea being to rule out social/societal influence on the interpretation of the data.
- jqpabc123 4y agoReality has a definite left wing bias. Deny it at your peril.
- pmdulaney 4y agoAmerican reality definitely has a left wing bias.
- stevenjgarner 4y agoGiven that Republican counties tend to be more faith-based [0], dare I posit that faith-based counties will have a tendency to pray to get healed rather than get medical care? - stevenjgarner 4y ago"The firearm death rates in Republican and Democratic states or regions" graph in the article [0] explains a lot. Also interesting to see the greater widening of mortality rates amongst white ethnicities [1].
