eSIM has one and only one user-friendly use-case: ahead of traveling abroad, to buy a local cell subscription without hassle of having to show up to a shop, or wait for mail-in.
Ditching physical SIMs altogether, on the other hand, is nothing other than giving free hand to your carrier to screw you over whenever you change phones.
- mrcheesebreeze 4y agocongrats, you just realized what the majority of tech "improvements" from the last few years really were. It was about making it easier for companies and gaining more control, not about the consumer. The tech world will only get worse, soon it seems like we can only choose to be completely locked in or completely locked out. I fear anonymity is going to no longer be realistic in any sense soon.

And that's a pretty marginal one at that. When I've gotten SIMs for traveling, it was either <20 min at little shop (where I paid cash), or something I had mailed to me ahead of time which I swapped in the airport.
