- PaulHoule 4y agoI grew up in Manchester, NH and I still was frequently going there to visit family when the Segway was introduced. I had numerous Segway experiences when I was there, including watching cops test them out behind an abandoned shopping center (looked like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demolition_Man_(film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demolition_Man_(film)) and getting chased off the sidewalk by Victory Park by somebody barrelling down it in a Segway. Kamen was notorious as an eccentric character, and this story reminds me of how the "meritocracy" is noisy and puts people in positions of influence on the basis of luck more than anything else and often leads to erratic results.
- jimhi 4y agoTesting out the odd mechanical projects was pretty fun. I also remember them making a "human slingshot" concept for the military. They had this video of a giant device sending dummies over a 40 story roof.
