A few years ago I did just that. C (a very common langauge) and a popular IDE (either Eclipse or IntelliJ, I don't recall which one). I loaded up a simple two-file C project into the IDE and it promptly crashed. I think I'll stick with my text editor I've been using for 30 years. I've never had a problem with editing any language.
