Does this change help 3rd parties (e.g. the Green party)?
- mark_l_watson 4y agoGreat point. I am a Libertarian and we don’t SPAM people. But I would hope that all political parties get the same treatment. BTW, I block email addresses and that works fairly well. To be honest, I don’t care much what Google does here.
- wincy 4y agoThe Libertarian party is incredibly amateurish compared to either major party. My wife helped a local candidate canvas, talked to lots of local libertarians an… nothing. No contact list, no keeping track, so no ability to keep building on your contacts. Until the Libertarian National Convention is more than a place to do hard drugs and embarrass the party by the chair literally being drunk during business, it’s not worth supporting the party.
- silisili 4y agoIt is. I made the mistake of selecting L instead of NPA when registering once, trying to get away from a bigger party. They literally just sent me one piece of mail with every L candidate in local, state, and national elections printed out. No pictures, no hello, no platform. Just a creepy list of names.
- arlcode 4y agoAs someone from outside the US: From online interactions, I get the feeling that it is quite typical for regular American people to get cold contacted by political candidates via mail, phone, text or even in person. How much of that impression is just bias by people complaining who forgot that they signed up for that? (For context: Where I am you would see parties having an open air infodesk in the center of town or a regulated number of TV / online ads and signs around election season)
- jtokoph 4y agoYou’re automatically “opted-in” by registering to vote. The parties all get access to your address, phone number and any additional contact information you included in your voter registration. Political parties are also exempt from the do-not-call list rules and anti-spam rules. They carved themselves out some nice exemptions.
- mark_l_watson 4y agoSo, how long have you worked for the DNC. Sorry, but you sound like the democrats jumping through hoops trying to remove 3rd party candidates from ballots - illegally. The republicans aren’t quite as bad doing this. If you don’t believe in a free and open representative democracy, just say so.
