After using some antibiotics due to an infection I suddenly developed milk allergy. So I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people who believe are lactose intolerant (a genetic trait) are actually just lacking some gut bacteria, and this isn’t well studied yet.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people who believe are lactose intolerant (a genetic trait) are actually just lacking some gut bacteria, and this isn’t well studied yet. Lactase is an enzyme that typically stops being expressed in most Humans (other than some Nordics and Mongolians/Tibetans who lack multi-season based Agriculture) after a certain age, what you may be describing is an ability to better digest the dairy but not fully convert Lactose (a sugar). As noted I spent most of my culinary career in Farm to Tables/Agrotourisms in Europe and the US while simultaneously doing a Biodynamic horticulture apprenticeship and I can tell you that drinking raw milk had a much bigger impact on how my body reacted, from cows milk it was mild, from goat/sheep milk it was completely fine with only some scratchy eyes if I drank too much (over a liter). This makes sense because you aren't forcing the cells to undergo lysis which is what causes the innate and adaptive immune system responses as it detects a threat from foreign antibodies/hormones/RNA/DNA: mucus, inflammation, cough etc... Gut bacteria is such a poorly understood thing, but as former cellular and molecular biologist that excelled in microbiology during my undergrad (hence biodynamics) there is so much more to explore to see how much of an impact it has on the body/mind. I know that when my gut bacteria gets too beaten up from eating processed food or just not eating well I will start start to get incredibly bad mood swings, which is why I eat fermented foods on a regular basis and drink kombucha when its available. Let food be thy medicine.
