We don't need special programming education, we need mathematics reform. Stop teaching everybody old-school pencil and paper math, and teach them to use computers to compute until they get past algebra. No need to waste kids' time with hand calculations, just teach them to use the tools and apply logic. Exposing children to more abstract concepts, like numerical bases, boolean algebra, recursion, etc., would have greater impact than making them memorize multiplication tables. Using software that can seamlessly connect the shapes to the equations with painless modification should benefit many who struggle with trigonometry and geometry, while helping those with an interest to explore more quickly and easily.
