People Aren’t Stopping for Washington State Police
- whateveracct 4y agoNot much substance here - the article tries to draw big conclusions but doesn't do so concretely at all. The only concrete thing in the article is the 900 refusals to stop since Jan 2022. But even that is missing context. What is a "normal" amount?
- ocbyc 4y agoI would assume closer to 0.
- whateveracct 4y agoYou have to count each case of someone trying to evade the police when pulled over as an instance. I could see it being in the 100s as well.

- rolph 4y agorespect is earned by being respectable, and its a two way street. fear is not respect, and violence is not leadership. you cant command people to respect you. if people respect you they are more likely to cooperate when they encounter crime, instead of avoiding you and ignoring criminal behaviour, out of self preservation. when the general public cooperates with you there is a much greater chance of aleveiating the crime. when the public fears you they will avoid interaction with you. there are much better ways to suppress crime, than turning traffic laws into fishing expeditions, until you by chance encounter evidence of a crime.
- lolc 4y agoThis article does not say why the law was changed. The linked article at the bottom explains the tradeoff: The chases are dangerous. https://www.nwnewsnetwork.org/2022-05-26/see-ya-washington-police-say-drivers-arent-stopping-for-them-cite-pursuit-restrictions https://www.nwnewsnetwork.org/2022-05-26/see-ya-washington-p...
- la64710 4y agoIf a criminal is driving dangerously and risking other people lives then the cops should be able to absolutely blast them into oblivion without hesitation.
- nathanaldensr 4y agoNot in a state optimizing for the safety and survival of criminals!
- josephcsible 4y agoIf I'm driving a stolen car, and I know the police aren't allowed to chase me, why wouldn't I run?
