"You are responsible for your career. No one else is." That is common sense. It is also non-controversial. "You are responsible for raising and feeding your own children. No one else is." That is common sense. But it appears these days to be quite controversial. Why the difference? I think part of the woke wave is the idea that if you are sub-elite status in the United States, then society cannot reasonably expect anything from you, can hold you to no standards whatsoever.
