It would be really interesting to see an executor that didn't rely on global state, but instead had you manage an executor object for these things, and see if it's actually really all that bad. Everyone just kind of jumped straight on doing executors with global state and that design space is just completely unexplored. It would help a lot with being able to discover and define what standard traits might be needed to make leaf async libraries more portable.
