- gumby 4y ago> The less power is concentrated the more we avoid wars and other zero sum things no? That doesn’t seem to be the lesson of history. When all the entities are small the scale of a given conflict tends to be smaller but I think the absolute amount of warring and unfairness is generally higher. And still there were continent-scale wars in Europe even when it was packed with microstates. Larger states can, and generally do provide some more constant control against local abuse as well as alternate paths to asset acquisition than simply stealing yours. There may be some sort of appropriate number and scale that’s bes, and we probably haven’t found it if it exists, but the current system is way better than either pole (a gajillion microstates or one mega state)
- desindol 4y agoI guess you never studied history central governments are a crucial reason for one of the most peaceful times humanity has ever lived through.
- ls15 4y agoCentralized power is also a crucial reason for corruption and oppression. History is full of examples.
- smsm42 4y ago> The less power is concentrated the more we avoid wars Good luck pitching this bright idea to Putin. Until you have him convinced that having all the power to himself is actually not a good idea, there's no way to avoid wars he is starting.
