Such things exist (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breather_switch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breather_switch), but so far they've been mostly only used for localised expansion/contraction/movement hotspots, i.e. bridges longer that 50 – 100 m or so.
