It’s been surreal hearing ‘ag advocates’ conduct sermons over how organic ag fails us using the Sri Lanka example.
If anything, this is a teachable moment about the unsustainability of relying upon fossil fuel based ag inputs as imports. SriLanka ran out of forex and did not have a robust diversified self sustaining food industry to feed it’s people.
This doesn’t make a case for fossil fuel based ag inputs and/or a case against organic agriculture. If anything, the reverse is true.
Not to mention, geniuses who claim that the planet is underpopulated and we should breed even more to increase our numbers.
- NoPie 4y agoHow could they diversify with organic farming if there was not enough demand for organic tea in the world? I mean, they could diversify by not growing food at all and have some entirely different business like IT services, high-tech manufacturing or something like that (probably impossible in short-term anyway) but it doesn't change anything because someone somewhere needs to grow food to feed all 8+ billion people on this planet. It simply cannot be done by organic farming methods that are known to the humanity at this time.
