Show HN: Logto beta – build universal sign-in, auth, and identity with ease
- pseudopuppet 4y agoSince our first alpha version, we've had a lot of help and received great ideas from the community. Thank you! Logto is now in public beta. We're working hard on more improvements, SDKs, and connectors. Feel free to drop your comments or needs. Hope the official release of Logto will meet you soon.
- uncomputation 4y agoHow is this different from Auth0?
- nlh 4y agoI may be missing something but this looks like an open source project vs. Auth0 which, while it has a free plan, is part of Okta and is a commercial product.
- scrollaway 4y agoMaybe a better comparison point would be Keycloak. I’d also like to know how it compares to it.
- yowmamasita 4y agoI tried and it seems it's Keycloak with an easy UX, a lot less features, and you're limited to only one realm.
- mffap 4y agoIn case you're looking for multi-tenancy with self-service, maybe try out https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel Would be glad to get your thoughts on the platform. (discl: I work for ZITADEL.
- pseudopuppet 4y agoWe started as for customer identity, which means the current version is for the apps that have external customers, e.g. an online store. We’ll constantly iterate to fit more scenarios.
- k__ 4y agoSo Logto is an open source project you host yourself?
- capableweb 4y agoIt's a open source library you integrate into your application.
- cassianoleal 4y agoIt doesn't look like it's a library. It's a service you run. They also provide SDKs for app integration but that's not the same as being a library.
- CoffeeOnWrite 4y agoLink to demo please? I grepped both GitHub page and official site for "demo" but came up empty.
- techmasterflex 4y agoMaybe just try reading the GitHub page? There are details on how to try it online/locally.
- capableweb 4y agoI've read the README, website and docs, didn't find any online demo. Closest I found was this: https://docs.logto.io/docs/tutorials/get-started/check-out-demo https://docs.logto.io/docs/tutorials/get-started/check-out-d... But requires you to first install it yourself or "run it" it something called GitPod. I just wanna see the UX in action on a demo website!
- pseudopuppet 4y agoWe don’t have a dedicated demo website for now. But a good feedback tough.
- jurschreuder 4y agoI would not trust node.js with security stuff
- mccorrinall 4y agoBecause…?
- lmeyerov 4y agonpm ecosystem is a cve & backwards incompatibility nightmare that incurs a huge maintenance treadmill just to stay in place. I've had repeat vacations interrupted by npm, and never pip/conda. Why, I don't know: community, tool, stdlib, ...?
- muttantt 4y agoIt's funny, at our company with a very successful 8-figure SaaS we do all our front end as an AngularJS 1.8 SPA. Seeing all this modern javascript tooling and typescript, exports, constructors, classes, etc. makes me cringe for the new developers who have to learn all that hot mess.
- Kiro 4y agoHaving to work with Angular 1.8 in 2022 sounds awful. Can't imagine being stuck in a worse legacy nightmare.
- Kaze404 4y agoAngularJS 1.8? At our company we do all our frontend in HTML 1, no CSS or Javascript. Makes me cringe for the developers in your company who had to learn all this hot mess.
- ilrwbwrkhv 4y agoAgreed. The old angular might be the peak of JS frameworks. Which industry are you in?
- muttantt 4y agoVOIP
- swyx 4y agoit is comments like this that make me wish for a mute feature on HN so that I never have to spend any further seconds of my life reading anything from someone with such poor judgment
- ocimbote 4y agoI work in a highly regulated industry and I fail to see the benefits of self-hosting identity management in a context of mandatory compliance with GDPR and CCPA. 3rd party vendors relieve companies such as mine from a ton of responsibilities we'd otherwise have to handle and manage associated risks. Of course, we're the kind of company that think the less code and processes we have to be audited for, for, say, SOC2, the better. Which is pretty much every company, I assume. Please I'd very much appreciate diverse opinions on that topic.
- popalchemist 4y agoHas it occurred to you that just because it doesn't fit your needs it doesn't necessarily mean there is no use case? As a developer in the SaaS space, this is absolutely invaluable and very much needed. Your attitude is ridiculous.
- TechBro8615 4y agoReminder: Equifax engineers also “work in a highly regulated industry”
- Kab1r 4y agoHow does this compare against existing open source authentication providers like Authelia and Authentik? I've been trying out Authentik and have been pretty impressed with it.
- notlukesky 4y agoFor external or internal use?
- pseudopuppet 4y agoJust had a look on Authentik, it’s very cool. Looks like Authentik is for enterprise (i.e. workforce) identity only, while Logto starts from customer side. E.g. sign-in and identity for an online bookstore.
- swyx 4y agoNit: calling GitPod a "super easy setup" is misleading. you're not going to use that in anything even close to production. better to say "try it in 1 click" or something that indicates more tentativeness/less production ready setting
- pseudopuppet 4y agoYou are right. Will refine the wording soon.
- zichy 4y agoPlease keep accessibility in mind when creating forms. I just checked out the demo app and you are using `placeholder` instead of `label`.
- pseudopuppet 4y agoThanks. Will add a11y lint rules and fix soon.
