I can’t imagine being accused of a crime and having my fate determined by a group of people who clearly did not want to be there.
Why not charter a bus from the retirement home or unemployment office instead?
- cafard 4y agoYou don't think the jurors might take an unfavorable view of the criminal justice system? They could be just what the defense attorneys want.
- nerdawson 4y agoFew people want to be there, regardless of how they were selected. It’s a summons, not an invitation.
- redeeman 4y agodepends on the definition of want.. if I am on my way to surgery to remove a tumor, I probably really do not want this.. if i get a letter saying to appear in two weeks, where I have plenty of time to schedule it, I might not want to have to do it, but at the same time want to do it to help justice.
- Rebelgecko 4y agoI'd be more concerned about having my fate determined by a group of people who actively seek out and desire jury duty. Kind of reminds me of what Douglas Adams said about elected officials: The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
