In written communication, it’s hard to express tone of voice and emotions, or something like sarcasm. So, instead of writing lenghty sentences just to express emotions for three words sentence - I use one emoji, thus I save everyones time and avoid misunderstandings. And sometimes using emoji like "Grinning Face with Sweat" is just cleaner than trying to express the emotion. Works fine in startup, probably not that well in huge corporation. As for understanding emotions - I struggle to understand them in-person too…
