I think that there should be more open source systems that do parity across serves versus replication. So to me this is great! AFAIK, something like swift suggests keeping 5 copies of everything, so if you want 1PB usable you need 5PB raw. But with dual parity spread across servers, like in Nimbus, you could probably get 80% usable vs raw. This would be similar to Isilon. I wonder if Swift may support something similar in the future.
