Microsoft is a Linux and open source company these days

- 2Gkashmiri 4y ago>All things considered, it's well past time to stop being so harsh on Redmond. Stop judging Microsoft on what it did a decade ago and judge it by what it's doing today. ® heck. this is troubling on so many levels.

- phendrenad2 4y agoEveryone misses the point when it comes to Microsoft vs open-source. The problem isn't Microsoft, the problem is open-source is kryptonite to capitalist enterprise. Giving things away for free is a poor way to make money. So, any company in Microsoft's position would be similarly threatened, and try to kill it any way you can. If desktop Linux were a serious threat to Windows once again, Microsoft would likely behave the exact same way it did in the 2000s. The fact that they release open-source software, including Linux distros, is irrelevant. AWS appeared and showed Microsoft a way to make money from Linux, so they're pursuing that avenue. Also, contributions to Linux servers does little to help desktop Linux, so they're not working against their own desktop OS dominance.
