Which game was this? Aren't there objective advantages and disadvantages to certain characters even as a top player? For example, if two top players were playing SSBM, the most optimal choice is playing Fox or Wolf. I understand that some will use "meta play" as storytelling/marketing, but there does come a point where skill can't make up the cost of choosing a disadvantageous character when fighting against other pros.
