Netflix ad deal could hint at a future acquisition by Microsft, says analyst
- vivaldidev 4y agoImagine a Gamepass and Netflix bundle... games and movies under on subscription. Could also set up Microsoft nicely to be a metaverse play with a mix of gaming and traditional media. Although come to think of it, maybe it would make more sense for MSFT to make a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery? Cheaper valuation, and you get DC + Harry Potter properties which would be huge as properties to be leveraged in gaming and the upcoming VR metaverse.
- astlouis44 4y agoWhile we're throwing ideas out there - why doesn't Microsoft just take a huge swing to try and buy Disney? They would instantly cement themselves with onbtaining get one of the world's largest media conglomerates with an extensive library of beloved IP, and they could leverage all of that content in movies, gaming, and the metaverse like you mentioned.

- dtagames 4y agoMicrosoft is the only major cloud provider without a video service. Amazon has Prime Video and Google has YouTube.
- astlouis44 4y agoVery good point.
- dane-pgp 4y agoSo FAANG would really become MAMA?
- rvz 4y agoMakes sense. Apple, Google, Amazon, etc seem to have their own video and movies services and Netflix is essentially a feature that is unable to compete with the likes of the competition as Amazon Prime Video is already catching up to Netflix's market share: "Netflix lost 2% in streaming video market share in the U.S. in Q2, according to JustWatch, and now accounts for 21% of the domestic streaming market. Amazon gained 1% during the same quarter, reaching a market share of 20%." [0] So as you can see, Netflix is declining and if this continues it could likely be Microsoft® Netflix® soon if they are still are unable to improve their numbers, alongside with fierce competition with Apple TV, Disney+, YouTube, HBO, Hulu, etc. [0] https://www.protocol.com/newsletters/entertainment/prime-video-netflix-market-share https://www.protocol.com/newsletters/entertainment/prime-vid...
