  Still, this Basic interpreter is running on the device itself. I think MicroPython is not?

    MicroPython runs on the device, you can open a REPL to it and command the device interactively.

    Micropython is definitely running on the device. It's running on the pi pico installed in my wall right now.

    micropython can also run natively on ESP32 devices and other arduino devices now.
