This is a tangent, but I felt like sharing. In college, I purchased a used copy of the communist manifesto. Famously, the first line reads, "A spectre is haunting Europe, ...". The previous owner had both highlighted and circled the word "spectre" and wrote "ghost?" in the margins. The rest of the text was similarly marked up. Every time I hear the word "spectre" I see "ghost?" in my mind's eye.
